Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of managerial leadership and strategic communication on decision-making within bridge construction projects in the department of Cauca, Colombia. It addresses the problem of limited coordination among managerial, technical, and operational levels, which affects the efficiency of road infrastructure management. The objective was to examine how leadership styles and communication effectiveness influence the quality and timeliness of strategic decisions. The research used a mixed-methods approach, combining a Likert-scale questionnaire for operational staff, semi-structured interviews with project leaders, and a documentary decision matrix. The results show positive relationships between leadership, communication, and decision-making across different organizational levels. At the managerial level, leaders with stronger communicative and strategic competencies tend to make decisions more consistent with the project’s objectives. It is concluded that transformational leadership and strategic communication strengthen coordination, trust, and efficiency in infrastructure project management, becoming determining factors for improving performance and ensuring the sustainability of public works. These findings contribute to a better understanding of leadership and communication dynamics in complex construction projects and provide a reference framework applicable to similar contexts across South America.
