Abstract

This article addresses the relevance of the semi-open regime within the context of the Ecuadorian prison system and its influence on the social reintegration of incarcerated individuals. Its aim is to analyze the impact of the semi-open regime on the social reintegration of incarcerated individuals at the Rehabilitation Center-Zone 1 in Ibarra, Ecuador. The methodology employed is based on a descriptive approach and utilizes the analytical-synthetic method to assess the semi-open regime in relation to the progressive realization of rights, the social rehabilitation system, and the purposes of punishment. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. The results obtained reveal the importance of an individualized approach in the execution of sentences to facilitate the gradual reintegration of offenders into society. The structural and organizational crisis in the Ecuadorian prison system is evident, as well as the scarcity of opportunities to access adequate educational benefits and psychological treatments. In conclusion, the need for significant reforms in the prison system to enhance the effectiveness of social rehabilitation and the reintegration of individuals into society upon completion of their sentences is emphasized. Access to the semi-open regime is presented as a key opportunity to promote successful rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals.
