Resumo
A menstruação é um processo biológico e involuntário experimentado por mulheres cis, homens trans, pessoas não binárias e algumas pessoas de certos espectros de intersexualidade por aproximadamente quarenta anos. É também um fenômeno histórico-social que é suscetível a elementos culturais que influenciam a forma como as representações sociais são construídas. Estas representações não são imunes ao impacto das marcas androcêntricas e da ordem cisheteropatriarcal que tem permeado desde a vida cotidiana até a produção do conhecimento científico. Isto levou à prevalência de representações negativas do sangue menstrual ligadas a crises de higiene, efeitos negativos, mudanças emocionais, estigmatização, dissimulação e tabu, entre outros. Entretanto, nas últimas décadas, outras epistemologias permitiram o surgimento e a visibilidade de narrativas e linguagens que facilitaram não apenas o desenvolvimento de representações mais positivas e críticas, mas também a compreensão da menstruação como um fenômeno que não é experimentado apenas pelas mulheres. Por esta razão, este artigo tem por objetivo fornecer uma breve revisão das marcas androcêntricas encontradas em algumas disciplinas científicas e na própria sociedade. Ela também procura destacar novas perspectivas como formas de resistência epistêmica e as ferramentas, como as epistemologias feministas, que podem liderar o caminho na reapropriação da menstruação por aqueles que a experimentam.
