Abstract
This study of burnout syndrome is considered a phenomenon that significantly impacts the job performance of the administrative staff of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, in an environment characterized by increasing demands and heavy workloads. This study's main objective was to verify the correlation between burnout syndrome and job performance, determining its fundamental aspects through an exhaustive analysis. A quantitative, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional approach was used, enabling the empirical analysis of the phenomenon in a representative sample of 191 professionals who are part of the administrative staff from different areas of the institution. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to measure the aspects of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal fulfillment, while job performance was evaluated through indicators linked to motivation, work environment, and productivity. The results showed a marked negative correlation between burnout and job performance, with a Spearman's Rho coefficient of 0.865 and a significance level of 0.000, demonstrating a statistically significant relationship between the two variables. Additionally, factor analysis corroborated the structural validity of the instrument, attributing 71.029% of the variability to three established components. It is confirmed that burnout syndrome adversely affects staff effectiveness and dedication, highlighting the importance of developing institutional prevention and emotional support strategies that foster healthy work environments.
