Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that affect the consumption of organic eggs in the city of Riobamba, Chimborazo, to establish a baseline that will allow identifying opportunities and challenges in marketing. For this, a mixed, cross-sectional and correlational non-experimental design was applied, where 83 structured surveys were conducted among urban consumers aged 25 to 65 years interested in consuming organic products. The correlation analysis (r = 0.988) shows a very strong positive relationship between socio-economic variables and the degree of consumption; that is, as economic conditions improve, the level of consumption tends to increase significantly. However, barriers that reduce consumption of these products have also been identified, such as high cost, limited market availability and lack of awareness of their benefits. To promote consumption, it is essential to implement education and awareness strategies, as well as increase affordability. This study provides valuable information to promote the organic sector in Ecuador, highlighting the importance of changing perceptions about these products and addressing the associated economic and cultural challenges.
