Kayambi Resistance. Collective memory, praxis and community organization. Experiences from the Pucara de Pesillo Community

Abstract

The article provides a recapitulation of the authors' research experiences, framed in community and intercultural psychology, around the wisdom of the Kayambi Ancestral People, specifically in the territory of the Pucara de Pesillo community, in the province of Pichincha, Ecuador. The objective of this article is to show how Kayambi resistance is present in the collective memory, praxis and community organization of Pesillo. For this purpose, a bibliographic analysis was carried out as a methodological approach, focused on the resistance, re-existence and struggle of the indigenous community throughout history. The results obtained from these experiences, based on the paradigm of community psychology and critical psychology, understanding praxis as the implementation of ideas and theories to address problems and needs. From the community context of Pesillo, praxis implies the materialization of relationships between individuals, territory, knowledge and environment. Emphasizing the dimension of transformation of reality and construction of knowledge of struggle. Concluding that the indigenous organization of the Kayambi people is based on community participation in decision making, reciprocal responsibility and the strengthening of territoriality, interculturality and sustainability. This is why, from this research, the community organization is considered as an alternative social structure to the constituted power.
