Approaches to a Latin American Psychology

Abstract

This article argues that Psychology in general, like most of the Social Sciences in Latin America, continues to legitimize a form of fragmentary, partial, a-historical and individual scientific knowledge. Being able to analyze the relationship between Psychology, Modern Science and Colonialism can be a starting point. Western modern science represents a view of the world, which obeys an epistemic model deployed by Modernity, and which is nothing other than the reproduction of a western cultural, economic and political hegemony, in short, a colonial heritage of capitalism current. The epistemic transcendence for a Latin American psychology not only implies a scientific alternative, it also implies a historical, political, ethical and ontological alternative.
